Bapu Atma Singh, the father of Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, was approximately 67 to 86 years old when he was apprehended by the Sarhali Police Station on August 25, 1991, from his residence by officers named DSP Gurmeet Singh Randhawa and SSP (Tarn Taran) Ajit Singh Sandhu. He was last seen in police custody on October 24, 1992. Since then, the family has had no information about his whereabouts or what happened to him at the hands of the police. Bapu Atma Singh had no involvement in any Kharku activities, despite his son Baba Manochahal being a prominent Kharku. He had been detained 25 times prior to his disappearance.
